Windows Marketplace for Mobile to charge developers for application updates
We know that Microsoft is in business to make money, after all, who isn’t? That being said, one of the things that you have to ask, is whether they will make money if the upcoming Windows Marketplace becomes a success, much like Apple’s App Store. We ask this because developers will get five free submissions to the Marketplace each year, and each subsequent submission will cost developers $99 a pop. Of course, this will probably encourage developers to focus on their core applications, and not jump from app to app. The problem is, according to certain parties, every revision to an app will count as a new submission, now that might be a problem. You might argue that developers will have more incentive to get things right the first time, and that’d be better for end users. That being said, it still doesn’t seem like it’s going to be a very popular move amongst developers.
