Sprint Nextel announces 17 new WiMax markets

Sprint has just announced that no less that 17 new US markets would benefit from its 4G network by the end of 2009.

These will be added to the markets previously announced (like Atlanta, Las Vegas and Portland, where 4G services should be available starting this month).

According to Sprint, the 17 new markets where 4G services will be rolled out by the end of 2009 include: Boise (Idaho); Bellingham (Washington); Salem (Oregon); Maui (Hawaii); Charlotte, Greensboro and Raleigh in North Carolina; Abilene, Amarillo, Austin, Corpus Christi, Killeen-Temple, Lubbock, Midland-Odessa, San Antonio, Waco and Wichita Falls in Texas.

During 2010, Sprint plans to bring 4G to even more markets, including New York, San Francisco, Boston, Houston and Washington, D.C.

Based on Clearwire’s WiMAX network, Sprint’s 4G services will be able to provide mobile broadband customers with download speeds of up to more than 10Mbps, and upload speeds of up to 3-6Mbps.
