Rumor: Opera Mini coming to Verizon or AT&T phones?

8th Jul, 2009 | No Comment | Posted in Software

Opera already has deals with two US mobile carriers (Virgin Mobile and Sprint), but it looks like the Norwegian software company wants more.

According to PC World, the company plans to distribute its popular Opera Mini browser to a larger number of phones in the US. Jon von Tetzchner, Opera’s CEO, said so himself: “We are working to provide an Opera Mini-based solution with a major operator in the U.S.”

He also added that the deal is bigger than the ones with Virgin Mobile and Sprint.

Which probably means that Opera is in talks with either Verizon, or AT&T – especially since the deal will be completed with the help of Motricity, which provides a mobile platform for all major US carriers (Verizon, AT&T, Sprint and T-Mobile).

An Opera spokesmen said that, although the partnership will involve the use of Opera Mini, it may not carry the Opera brand.

Exact details should be announced by Opera in the next two weeks.
