Openmoko Announces July 4 Availability Of Neo FreeRunner

Taiwan-based open mobile platform developer Openmoko recently announced the online availability on July 4 of its GNU/Linux mobile device, the Neo FreeRunner.
The Neo FreeRunner handset comes in two configurations – the 850MHz and the 950MHz Tri-band GSM – aiming to adapt to varying frequencies in different countries. The phone has integrated software for basic phone functionalities like call-making, SMS and saving contacts, and periodic updates for download will be available, including an application suite that’s fully compatible with the device hardware platform.
Among the Neo FreeRunner’s more notable features are 802.11b/g Wi-fi and Bluetooth 2.0 connectivity, dual 3-way motion sensors, a 2.8” 480 x 640 VGA touch screen, AGPS, GPRS 2.5G, 128MB WSDRAM and 256MB NAND Flash. All of these are packed in a black, oval-shaped body that tips the scale at 6.5 ounces.
Openmoko further announced that the Neo FreeRunner will start shipping to distributors and customers on July 7, and will carry a $399 price tag.
