One in six mobile users is expected to own a near field communications (NFC)-capable device by 2014, forecasted Juniper Research on Monday.

The research firm whispered in the latest report that NFC espousal will be driven originally via transport ticketing services, subsequently retail disbursement services.

“As these transport schemes are rolled out, so this means that the supporting NFC infrastructure is in position and available for use by enhanced and exciting new service offerings for consumers,” supposed Juniper Research in the announcement.

With that in wits, Juniper foresees that the gross worldwide value of NFC dealings will surpass $110 billion by 2014.

Nevertheless, the news writer advised that some vital snags stay behind.

“Our research found that both the business model and rollout of POS (Point of Sale) NFC readers at merchant locations are issues that need solving,” believed Howard Wilcox, senior forecaster at Juniper Research.

“As these are overcome NFC is poised to enter an operational build-up phase culminating in mass service rollouts across many countries, typically in metro areas driven by transport ticketing,” he whispered.

By now Japan is leading the means for urbanized nations by its FeliCa-based mobile wallet handset; by 2014 Juniper anticipates comparable services to have gained toehold in Western Europe and North America.
