Nokia N79 and N85 blessed with firmware updates

16th May, 2009 | 1 Comment | Posted in Nokia

The Nokia N85 and Nokia N79 have both received significant firmware upgrades, to version 20.175. Version 20.175 fixes as always some major bugs but also adds some new functions. It adds turning controls (flip to silent for incoming calls and alarms) and Nokia’s email wizard, together with email notifications on the active idle screen (homescreen). The email wizard (’Set up e-mail’, also known as Gimlet) is now becoming a standard part of Nokia’s S60 devices. As on other devices, you’re offered a choice between Nokia e-mail, which sets up email in the built in Messaging application, and Nokia Email Service (also known as Nokia Messaging), which offers a consumer push email solution for any existing email address.

Other improvements and corrections include Active Idle screen becomes blank in landscape mode, or Active Idle going dead after quickly accepting and rejecting an incoming video call, as well as improvements for the Application Manager, including Wrong Feature Manager flag used for seamless link functionality or The sis file that is installed to MoviNand or SD card that cannot be seen in application manager.

It would be useful if you could list the things that have been adversly affected by the latest firmware v20 update. I’m interested in getting the n79 but if these updates cause other things to go squewiff (as I have read) then I might be forced to avoid Nokia phones all together and go for the iphone which would be a shame because i think the n79 sounds like a great phone, compact and nice looking!
