The company unconfined 15 smartphones in 2009 but next year will make out this figure halved. Reuters reported that this is a feedback to the rivalry from Apple’s iPhone and RIM’s BlackBerry.

The company is selling more smartphones than any of the rivalry but has decided to consolidate its location with its presented portfolio for the coming year. As well, it has lost ground, decreasing its souk share within the smartphone pitch from 41 per cent to 35 per cent.

Jo Harlow, the new leader of Nokia’s smartphone unit believed: “We see … really fierce competition certainly in the high end, but we also see it in the mid to low end of smartphones increasing.”

The proclamation has been agreed by industry experts. Pablo Perez-Fernandez, analyst with MKM Partners believes that the choice presented by the company is a “dizzying array of choices” and that deciding to cut back is the right move.

Bernstein analyst, Pierre Ferragu concurs with the diminution in the smartphone model array, but warns that Nokia’s product array has constantly been its most gung ho benefit over other mobile handset manufacturers. “Nokia has to be very careful in finding the right balance,” he believed.
