Microsoft Mobile Office needed Nokia, Symbian

13th Aug, 2009 | 1 Comment | Posted in Nokia

Nokia and Microsoft have just announced an agreement that will – as expected – bring Microsoft Office Mobile to Nokia’s Symbian smartphones.

Office Mobile (including Word, PowerPoint, Excel and OneNote) will be first available for the Nokia Eseries handsets (apparently starting 2010), with more S60 smartphones to get it afterwards.

The alliance will also see Nokia bringing Microsoft Office Communicator Mobile and Microsoft SharePoint Server to its smartphones.

“Together with Microsoft, we will develop new and innovative user experiences for employees of small and large businesses alike, ensuring Nokia’s smartphones are an integral part of the office and home-office environment, and addressing the significant opportunity in mobile enterprise productivity,” declared Kai Öistämö, Nokia’s Executive Vice President for Devices.

This is the first time when Microsoft agrees to work on a version of Office Mobile for mobile devices that don’t run on its Windows Mobile platform.
