Here’s something you probably thought you’d never hear. Apple’s iPhone 3G is going for free. What? Well, according to a press release by SoftBank Mobile, the Japanese carrier is planning to offer the iPhone 3G 8GB for free, or 16GB version for just $117. The deal is available to new subscribers, and you’ll need to tie yourself to a 2-year contract, but that’s fairly common of course. To make matters worse, the iPhone data plan will supposedly be going for $44.75 per month as opposed to the usual $60. AT&T subscribers who have recently purchased an iPhone might start to complain about the difference if they find out, so AT&T might want to brace itself for a couple of unhappy phone calls.
