iPhonevs-1

Orange’s iPhone 3GS has smack shelves under streamers announcing ‘you’re covered’ – an allusion to its 3G network apparently covering 93% of the UK, in excess of any of its opponents. But does it signify a smoother iPhone web browsing experience? We contrasted one with an O2 iPhone 3GS on our commute to discover.

It’s significance noting first that doing a network trial that’s definitive for everybody is nigh on unfeasible – a number of dissimilar factor upshot rates, and 3G coverage is hardly ever reliable across hefty vicinity. But it can at least give a universal thought of the uniformity of coverage.

We began our trial in central London, SW8. After defrayal the Safari cache on both the Orange and O2 iPhone 3GS, we all together burdened sites on both handsets – Stuff.tv, BBC and Apple

At our first SW8 position, the Orange iPhone struggled to get a 3G signal and took over a diminutive to stack Stuff.tv via GPRS – double as long as the O2 handset. But a stride along the road to Vauxhall station saw both phones bolt onto EDGE speeds, completely loading the BBC site in a speedy 7 seconds.

The anecdote was faintly dissimilar in Teddington, TW11 on the outskirts of London. The Orange iPhone confirmed much better-off out there, picking up a 3G signal instantaneously, though the O2 iPhone languished with GPRS. This permitted the Orange handset to load Stuff.tv (20 seconds) and Apple.com (16 seconds) over double as fast as its O2 opponent (60 seconds and 33 seconds respectively).
