Apple and Nokia intricate in hefty court combat

Two of the largest names in mobile handsets are coming collected to combat in court. Apple has submitted an official appeal to the International Trade Commission asking for a prohibition against Nokia’s mobile handset imports. Nonetheless, Nokia has also come after Apple by filing an objection accusing Apple of violating seven patents presently held by the Swedish company.

The combat between these two companies began in October of 2009 when Nokia sued Apple for blatant infringement of Nokia’s technology. The alleged infringements were said to affect Apple’s iPhone. In December, Apple countersued Noikia and said that the Swedish company had in fact infringed or taken over a dozen patents.

Nokia is a foremost name in the mobile handset industry. The company is largely hyped as the biggest maker of mobile handsets in the world. Nevertheless, the iPhone’s popularity has affected the company’s numbers since the first was shipped in 2007.

The International Trade Commission often sees such desires. At one time, when such groups as LG and Kodak disputed patents, the matter was settled out of court with a cross-licensing covenant. There are some mobile handset specialists who believe that the two companies will be able to reach the same sort of covenant.
